Through the generosity of individuals, businesses, school groups, houses of worship, and other organizations, the YWCA is able to address the needs of families in our community. Volunteers contribute unique talents, skills and knowledge that assist the YWCA in achieving our mission of empowering women and eliminating racism.
Our volunteer opportunties include:
Hospital Advocacy
Hospital Advocate volunteers are available 24 hours a day to meet survivors of domestic and sexual violence in the emergency rooms of local hospitals, offering support and referral information. These volunteers provide support to survivors when they are most vulnerable and experiencing crisis. This volunteer position requires making a six month commitment to being on-call twice a month.
Shelter Support
These volunteers perform various supportive roles throughout our shelters.
Volunteer needs in our shelters include tutoring children and adults, office support, sorting donations, leading fun activities for children and other projects.
Children's Classroom Assistance
Volunteers assist teachers and co-teachers in our preschool classrooms. Volunteers lead structured play and learning activities and assist as necessary in the classroom.
Speaker’s Bureau
These volunteers attend community events and speaking engagements as ambassadors of the YWCA. Speaker’s Bureau volunteers provide information about services and programs available at the YWCA and educate the public about domestic and sexual violence.
Administrative Support
Administrative volunteers provide integral support to the YWCA staff "behind the scenes". These volunteers assist with general office duties and seasonal projects such as special events and funding campaigns.
Groups
The YWCA welcomes group volunteers! We have opportunities for churches and other community groups, including donation drives to benefit our clients and other projects as needed.
