support the ywca

"Every day at the YWCA we see acts of amazing courage.  A battered woman's courage to escape her abuser.  A sexual assault victim's courage to begin rebuilding her life.  A homeless child's courage to replace fear with trust.  When you support the YWCA, you are supporting these courageous individuals.  For us, and for them, we say thank you."

Material Donations

Individuals, organizations, houses of worship and clubs can support any program area through a number of different activities. However, due to the confidentiality of our services and the crisis nature of our clients' lives, not all projects are appropriate for the YWCA.

The following guidelines will help you and your group to choose the best and most meaningful project in support of the YWCA:

  • Clients may not be transported to activities or events, unless authorized in advance and provided by the YWCA.
  • If your group would like to participate in a "hands on" activity at one of our shelters, consider landscaping work, sprucing up the playground, providing children's activities, or sponsoring a family cookout. The maximum number of volunteers who may come to the shelter at one time is ten (10). For groups over 10 you may want to consider organizing a fundraiser such as a bowl-a-thon.
  • We are not able to accept clothing collected through drives unless specifically requested by the shelter supervisors. If you would like to organize a collection drive, please contact the YWCA first  to determine the shelters' current needs.
  • Donations of furniture are only accepted when arranged in advance.
  • Other ideas or suggestions are considered on a case by case basis.

Please contact the YWCA at 804-643-6761 for more information

wish list

Many of the YWCA’s services are crisis-oriented.  As a result, the types of supplies that our clients and programs require change frequently.  If you would like to donate supplies or materials, please call the YWCA at 804-643-6761 to get an updated “wish list”.

The donation of gift cards is always welcomed and encouraged.  Gift cards to stores such as Wal-Mart, Target, Kroger, etc. allow us to purchase necessary items immediately and give us the flexibility to meet changing demands.
